Schools in Victoria must register as one or more of the following:
- primary
- secondary
- co-educational
- single sex
- specific purpose (schools that provide an alternative educational program or educational focus)
- specialist (schools that cater mainly for students with disabilities or with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties).
School regulation
All schools are registered by the VRQA and listed on the State Register.
The VRQA manages the registration and review of independent schools.
The Department of Education manages the registration and review of government schools. The Victorian Catholic Education Authority manages the registration and review of Catholic schools. We have agreements with both organisations.
