Complete an apprenticeship or traineeship

Apprenticeships and traineeships are complete when:

  • the apprentice or trainee has achieved all the competencies in their training plan
  • the employer confirms with the RTO that the apprentice or trainee is competent in the workplace
  • the RTO has entered the information received from you into Epsilon.

If you employ a trainee, the RTO will send you confirmation when the traineeship is complete.

If you employ an apprentice, we will send you written confirmation when the apprenticeship is complete.

It’s possible to finish an apprenticeship early if you and the RTO agree that your apprentice has shown all the required skills. Discuss this directly with your RTO.

Trade papers and confirmation an apprenticeship is complete

We will send the apprentice and employer a letter when an apprenticeship is complete.

It is very important to keep this letter, it is formal evidence of completion.

Apprentices also receive a trade paper.

If you're in the electrical trade, check with Energy Safe Victoria. You will need to find out about the required licences and registration.

If you're in building or plumbing trades, check with the Victorian Building Authority. You will need to find out about registration.

Certificates and confirmation a traineeship is complete

If you are a trainee, your TAFE or RTO will let you know when your traineeship is complete.

They will give you a certificate for the qualification you've achieved.

Find out more information about certificates.
