Following a decision from Ministers, in March 2024 the Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations announced early changes to Standards for RTOs.

On 4 April 2024, the VRQA Board approved changes to our Guidelines for VET Providers. This ensures consistency with national standards for VRQA-registered training organisations (RTOs).

The new Guidelines for VET Providers are available now.

In summary, they make 3 changes to our previous guidelines:

  1. Guideline 1.3 iv – now requires that all senior management members are fit and proper persons prior to employment and that their fit and proper status is confirmed annually.
  2. Guideline 3.2 – updates the latest TAE qualifications and allows secondary school teacher qualifications, plus one of 2 skill sets, to meet the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment requirements.
  3. Guideline 3.5 – allows individuals working under supervision to be working towards (defined as enrolled and actively engaged in completing) the TAE40122, instead of already holding one of the required skill sets.

We will support RTOs due for audit in the next 6 months with a transition period to become compliant. Contact vrqa.vet@education.vic.gov.au if you have questions about the new guidelines.
