The 2026–27 bushfire season started in October. All schools and school boarding premises must ensure they are bushfire ready.
Being bushfire ready is not just a requirement for schools on the Bushfire At-Risk Register. All schools and school boarding premises must consider the risk of bushfire for their activities, including camps, excursions, and student transport.
Weather conditions and bushfire ratings should be checked leading up to activities and on the day of the activity.
It is important to make sure your school and school boarding premises contact details are up to date on the State Register. Check them at the start of the bushfire season and email vrqa.schools@education.vic.gov.au if they need to be updated.
Our Guidelines on bushfire preparedness registered school and school boarding premises outline the important requirements schools must comply with. There are additional responsibilities if your school campuses or school boarding premises are on the Bushfire At-Risk Register.
