In May, we asked for feedback on our updated guidelines to the minimum standards for school registration and you delivered!
We extended the consultation period twice because so many schools, stakeholder groups and sector organisations wanted to participate.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide thoughtful and considered feedback.
Over 70% of you told us the updated guidelines were well structured and easy to navigate. Over half of you thought the updated guidelines explained requirements in plain language and provided more guidance on how to comply.
You also told us there was more work to be done to provide clarity about how to comply with the minimum standards in the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017 (Regulations).
We are working through your detailed feedback to make sure we provide greater clarity.
The current Regulations sunset in June 2027 and are currently being reviewed by the Department of Education.
To minimise administrative burden on schools we have decided to delay the implementation of the updated guidelines until we can incorporate any changes to the Regulations.
This means updated guidelines will be released in mid-2027 and will commence on 1 January 2028.
In the meantime, we will continue to engage with schools and develop more resources to help schools comply.
We will provide support and information sessions for schools before the implementation of the updated guidelines in 2028.
