If you’re a registered training organisation (RTO), you must tell students about any exit points in their accredited courses. This information must be clear in your course structure.

An exit point is a stage in the course where a student can leave and still gain vocational or educational outcomes. This recognises the learning they’ve already completed.

Students who exit at this point should receive a Statement of Attainment. This shows the unit or units of competency they have successfully completed. It can help them when applying for jobs or more training, even if they didn’t finish the whole course.

Your course information should:

  • clearly show any exit points in accredited courses
  • list the units of competency available at each exit point
  • ensure students who exit early receive a Statement of Attainment.

It’s important to let your students know when they can exit the course and still be recognised for their learning. This supports better education and career outcomes.

We audit VRQA-registered training organisations to ensure they meet all relevant standards and guidelines

All accredited courses must meet Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) standards, including those related to exit points.
