Recently, the VRQA revoked the approval of an employer in the food process industry and refused to approve their proposed training contracts. The VRQA’s investigation found the employer was not providing:
- appropriate equipment and scope of work
- the required minimum hours
- appropriate supervision of trainees.
By acting early, we prevented the exploitation of vulnerable, young trainees.
All employers of trainees must provide suitable work, training and supervision. Our authorised officers regularly monitor trainees, their employers and their workplaces. We have the power to cancel employers approval to employ trainees or place restrictions on their approval.
This protects the integrity and quality of Victoria’s apprenticeship and traineeship system.
If you’re a trainee in any industry with concerns about supervision arrangements, your workplace facilities or equipment, contact us. We can offer advice and send authorised officers to your workplace.
