New standards for RTOs are here

New guidelines for VRQA RTOs will commence on 1 January 2027. The VRQA is running information sessions to help RTOs comply.

The new Guidelines for vocational education and training (VET) providers incorporate the 2025 National Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) into Victoria’s legislative framework.

This ensures national consistency and means VRQA RTOs meet the same standards as Australian Skills Quality Authority and Western Australian Training Accreditation Council RTOs.

VRQA RTOs will still need to comply with Victorian specific requirements relating to governance, financial viability, and the Child Safe Standards.

About the new guidelines

There are 3 guidelines that apply to all RTOs:

• Guideline 1: 2025 Standards for RTOs
• Guideline 2: VRQA requirements
• Guideline 3: RTO data reporting requirements

There is an additional guideline that applies to RTOs that deliver to students under 18 years of age:

• Guideline 4: Child Safe Standards

Upcoming information sessions

We are holding a series of information sessions. These will provide targeted support for different types of RTOs. Invitations with details on how to join the sessions will be sent to you.

Targeted information sessions will be at 10:00 am on:

• Tuesday 15 September 2026 for school RTOs
• Thursday 24 September 2026 for Government RTOs
• Tuesday 6 October 2026 for Adult, Community and Further Education providers
• Tuesday 13 October 2026 for private RTOs.

We will also invite RTOs due for audit in 2027 to an advanced pre-audit information session at 10:00 am on Thursday 10 September 2026.
