The 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) came into effect nationally on 1 July 2025. We will support RTOs registered with the VRQA to transition to these new standards by 1 January 2027.
We are in the process of consulting with stakeholders to update the VRQA Guidelines for VET providers. These updated guidelines will be available in mid-2026. They will outline how the new standards apply to RTOs registered with the VRQA.
In the 6 months before our updated guidelines are implemented we will run information sessions to help RTOs prepare. We will also provide resources on the VRQA website so RTOs know what to expect and how to comply.
The new standards are intended to lift quality across the Australian vocational education and training (VET) sector. They provide a more direct link between the requirements RTOs are expected to meet and the outcomes they are expected to deliver.
RTOs due for audit
If your RTO is being audited in 2025 or 2026 you will be audited against the current Standards and guidelines for registered training organisations(opens in a new window).
