Our new employer campaign is now complete. It focused on providing education and support to new employers of apprentices and trainees. We wanted to make sure new employers understand and meet their obligations to apprentices and trainees.
During the campaign, our authorised officers visited employers across a range of industries including childcare, manufacturing, automotive, construction, hospitality, personal services and healthcare.
Although we found most employers were doing the right thing, some were not. Where an issue could be immediately addressed, we provided employers with education and support to comply.
However, where employers were not meeting their obligations and there was a risk of harm to apprentices or trainees, the VRQA took regulatory action.
This included because we found some employers were not providing appropriate supervision or the type of work required for the apprentice to gain the necessary skills and knowledge.
Find out more about employer obligations.
We will publish a full report on our new employer campaign later this year.
