[This video is two minutes long.
[At the beginning of the video multiple faces fly in from different directions. Each face represents someone involved in apprenticeships or traineeships. The title of the video appears in the centre of the screen.]
Apprenticeships and Traineeships, Know your rights and responsibilities.
[All the faces and the above title then disappear and the camera zooms in on the person in the centre of the screen]
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Hey there, I hear you have started a new apprenticeship?
[Vision: male aged care trainee speaking]
Or maybe it’s a traineeship?
[Vision: female hairdresser employer speaking]
Maybe you’re an employer of an apprentice or a trainee like me.
[Vision: female nurse employer speaking]
Whoever you are…
[Vision: male aged care worker speaking]
Welcome!
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
Now that you’re working, you need to know your rights and your responsibilities.
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
If you are an employer of an apprentice or a trainee.
[Vision: female hairdresser employer speaking]
Like me.
[Vision: female nurse employer speaking]
You have to make sure that your apprentice or trainee is enrolled with a registered training organisation within 3 months of starting.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
And release them from work so they can do their training.
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
You also have to provide the right facilities and equipment.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
So we can get the right skills for the job.
[Vision: female apprentice chef holding a big spoon speaking]
We all need the right tools.
[Vision: male aged care worker speaking]
You have to provide your apprentice or trainee with work that is relevant to the qualification.
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking while pointing to a wheelbarrow full of wood in assorted shapes and sizes]
Does this look like fine dining to you?
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Your apprentice or trainee needs supervision.
[Vision: female hairdresser employer speaking]
By a person with the right qualifications and experience.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
A professional - someone I can look up to.
[Vision: female nurse employer speaking]
No amateurs!
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Make sure your workplace is safe at all times!
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
And pay me properly.
[Vision: male aged care worker speaking]
Isn’t that obvious?
[Vision: female nurse employer speaking]
It should be.
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
Now, if you are an apprentice.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice pointing to himself while speaking]
Like me.
[Vision: female hairdresser employer speaking]
You have to turn up to work on time every working day.
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Follow Instructions.
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
Attend training.
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
As agreed to in the training plan.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
And work with me to stay on track
[Vision: female nurse employer speaking]
Making sure you gain the skills you need.
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
To get my qualification!
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
And if you have any problems
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Have a chat about it with your employer.
[Vision: female hairdresser employer speaking]
If you can’t sort it out, the VRQA can help you. And if they can’t, they can tell you who to speak to.
[Vision: male mechanic employer speaking]
Which is nice to know.
[Vision: male plumber apprentice speaking]
If you need to contact the VRQA, their contact details are at the end of this video,… in just under 10 seconds. [The last part of the sentence is spoken in lower voice holding his hand next to his mouth as if telling a secret).]
[Vision: female apprentice chef speaking]
So, keep at it and work towards your goal of getting your qualification.
[Vision: ALL faces are back on the screen and speaking in chorus]
And becoming the best you can be.
[Music over smiling faces. Displaying VRQA contact details in the centre of the screen.]
