The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is helping apprentices in the building and construction industry to check they are getting the right pay and conditions.

The FWO has released an information sheet for apprentices in building and construction. It includes information about:

  • how to find apprentice pay and conditions
  • free calculators to find your correct pay
  • what to do if your pay doesn’t seem right
  • where to get help with workplace problems.

It is important that apprentices know that they are receiving their proper entitlements. This way they can identify any issues with their employers.

While the FWO oversees pay for apprentices, the VRQA monitors whether employers are meeting their training contract obligations and keeping their apprentices safe. Pay‑related issues, such as paid training time, are part of these obligations. We will intervene where employers are not meeting their obligations under the training contract.
