Information for new independent schools

We held an information session on 1 April 2025 for prospective new independent schools.

It provided applicants with an overview of the registration process, including:

• school governance and not-for-profit requirements
• minimum standards and requirements for school registration
• Victorian Government support for independent schools
• the role of Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) and the funding available to independent schools.

If your organisation didn't attend and is planning to apply to register an independent school in 2025 you must contact us at: vrqa.schools@education.vic.gov.au.

The Guidelines to the minimum standards and requirements for school registration outline the regulatory requirements and the evidence you need to apply to register.

Additional meetings that include the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) for prospective providers of a senior or foundation secondary course can be arranged, if required.
