In direct response to feedback from schools, we have updated our guidelines to the minimum standards for school registration.
The updated guidelines are intended to ease the compliance burden by providing greater clarity. They are grouped into 6 sections and each requirement is numbered.
The updated guidelines:
- provide more guidance about what compliance looks like
- explain evidence requirements in plain language
- make clear when requirements apply only to new school applications.
The updated guidelines do not change the minimum standards or place additional requirements on schools.

Your feedback is valued. It will help shape the updated guidelines, our regulatory approach and our support for schools.
Following consultation, the guidelines will:
- be available to all schools in Term 3
- be supported by information sessions in Terms 3 and 4
- apply to registered schools from 1 January 2027.
