The VRQA has revoked the approval of 4 stores in a fast-food chain to employ apprentices and trainees.
Our investigation found that the employer failed to:
- ensure trainees completed at least 13 hours per week of paid employment and training
- provide appropriate supervision
- make sure trainees received structured training during work hours.
We will always act when we find that employers are not doing the right thing.
We also share information with our co-regulators to keep apprentices and trainees safe, in this case the Fair Work Ombudsman and WorkSafe.
Across the 4 stores, 23 trainees in Certificate III in Hospitality had their training contracts cancelled.
Affected trainees will keep credit for the training they have completed and can still choose to work for the employer. They can access the support services of Apprenticeships Victoria or contact us to report concerns.
